Top HR and work-related articles

At Workhuman Live 2025, Adam Grant highlighted the significance of discovering the hidden potential within employees’ abilities that individuals might not even be aware they possess.

Drawing from his own experiences, Grant presented four strategies for recognising and fostering this untapped potential:

  1. Diamonds in the Rough – Talent can emerge from the most unexpected sources. Rather than focusing solely on candidates who seem like the perfect fit, look for those who demonstrate the motivation and ability to develop.

  2. Culture Carriers – Often referred to as "disagreeable givers," these individuals challenge the status quo for the benefit of the organisation; although they may not be the most likeable, they play a crucial role in enhancing workplace culture and values.

  3. Safe Spaces – It is essential for leaders to actively cultivate psychologically safe environments by acknowledging their limitations and being open to criticism, which fosters honest conversations.

  4. Critics Turned Coaches – Constructive criticism can be transformative when leaders seek forward-looking advice rather than merely focusing on past feedback.

Grant encouraged HR leaders to identify and uplift overlooked contributors, thereby creating workplaces where hidden potential can flourish.

A collaborative study conducted by the ILO and Poland’s National Research Institute reveals that 1 in 4 jobs worldwide is susceptible to Generative AI (GenAI), with job transformation being the most probable outcome rather than widespread unemployment.

Key findings include: Clerical and administrative positions, predominantly held by women, face the highest risk of partial automation due to AI's capability to handle tasks such as data entry and scheduling.

Women are disproportionately impacted, with a greater percentage of female jobs exposed to GenAI in both high- and low-income nations.

The quality of jobs may deteriorate as responsibilities diminish and wages stagnate. Exposure levels differ by region, with high-income countries experiencing higher rates (34%) compared to low-income areas (11%).

However, a lower exposure does not equate to a reduced risk.

The report advocates for:

  • Targeted training initiatives, particularly for women in at-risk positions.

  • The incorporation of AI strategies into labour and education policies.

  • Fostering inclusive social dialogue to ensure that workers contribute to shaping the role of GenAI in the workplace.

  • Investment in digital infrastructure, particularly in underserved areas.

In summary, the study emphasises the importance of proactive planning and equitable access to ensure that AI serves to enhance rather than diminish the future of work.

Tips for CV making, job search, interviews, and career progression

A resume serves as your chance to highlight your work experience, qualifications, and skills to prospective employers.

However, since it is limited to just one or two pages, it is crucial to ensure that you have crafted the most effective resume possible before you submit it.

Want to differentiate yourself in the saturated job market? You've found the right spot.

The format of a resume is among its most crucial yet often neglected aspects.

  • Keep the design simple and scannable

Although it might be tempting to personalise your resume with eye-catching graphics and unusual formatting, simpler designs are almost always better.

  • Make it ATS-ready

You should also make sure that your resume is easily read by the applicant tracking systems (ATS) that many organisations use.

  • Consider a professional summary or objective

A professional summary gives you the space to outline your professional experience, key qualifications, and skills to hiring managers, while a resume objective focuses on your career goals.

  • Use a professional email address

Your email is your digital calling card, inviting potential employers to reach out to you online.

  • Omit the references section

In the past, it was common to include a references section on your resume, but today that isn’t required.

  • Put your experience in reverse chronological order

The most relevant work experience to many employers is your most recent work experience.

  • Tailor bullet points to the jobs you're applying for

The bullet points in your work experience section are meant to elaborate on the duties you performed in your previous positions.

  • Translate technical language into plain language

If you're in a specialised industry, chances are that you have a wealth of technical knowledge that the general population doesn’t know.

  • Focus on concrete achievements

At its core, work is about getting the job done.

  • Use action words

Resume action words are verbs that describe your duties and responsibilities with impactful language.
